Can I make a 3D plan for free? Which software?

Yes. Several free tools let you draw your home, raise the walls and place furniture in 3D. They're good for testing layouts. They're less good at realistic images and technical plans, and they take time to learn.

What free tools do well

  • Check if furniture fits.
  • Compare two or three layouts.
  • Explain an idea to a family member or contractor.

Where they fall short

  • Realistic images: natural light, real materials and good camera angles take skill and powerful software.
  • Technical plans: contractors need dimensioned plans, electrical points and details. Most free tools don't produce them.
  • Time: learning a tool and modelling a whole home can take days.
  • Accuracy: small errors in measurements or scale add up.

When a designer is worth it

If you're renovating, buying furniture for a whole home or need images to decide with others, a designer saves time and costly mistakes. You also get ideas you wouldn't have tried, not only a model of what you already had in mind.

Try first, then decide

A good path is to sketch your layout in a free tool, then send it to a designer. Your sketch helps explain what you want, and the designer turns it into a complete plan, moodboard and realistic 3D renders.

We work from any starting point: an architect's plan, your own sketch or a model made in a free tool.
